Sergeant Major Allen B. Goodyear

Sgt. Maj. Allen B. Goodyear currently serves as the Sergeant Major, Marine Corps Recruiting Command.

Sgt. Maj. Goodyear completed recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, California, in August 1996 and was assigned to Camp Pendleton, California, for Infantry Training School as a Mortarman.

In November 1996, Pfc. Goodyear received orders to Marine Barracks, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.  He was attached to Rifle Security Company Windward, where he provided fence line security.

In December 1997, Lance Cpl. Goodyear was transferred to 81mm Mortar Platoon, Weapons Company, 2d Battalion, 4th Marines.  During this tour he deployed with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit in support of Operation DESERT FOX and DESERT ANVIL, he earned the rank of corporal and sergeant before requesting assignment to Marine Security Guard Battalion.

From August 1999, Sgt. Goodyear was assigned as a watch stander with the Marine Security Guard Battalion serving in U.S. Embassies Vienna, Austria, and Moscow, Russia.  He assisted in the opening of the Marine Detachment Vilnius, Lithuania while holding the billet of assistant detachment commander.  He was meritoriously promoted to the rank of staff sergeant in July 2002.

In September 2002, Staff Sgt. Goodyear was transferred to 1st Battalion, 2d Marines where he served as a section leader for 81mm Mortar Platoon and deployed in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM.  Upon his return, he was transferred to Bravo Company, 1st Battalion, 2d Marines, and again deployed to Iraq serving as a rifle platoon sergeant until April 2005.

Staff Sgt. Goodyear was assigned to Recruiting Station St. Louis, Missouri, in July 2005, and was assigned as the staff noncommissioned officer-in-charge of Recruiting Sub Station Quincy, Illinois.  During this tour he led the Recruiting Sub Station to be recognized as station of the year, and was promoted to gunnery sergeant in April 2006.

In June 2008, Gunnery Sgt. Goodyear was assigned to 2d Battalion, 8th Marines.  He held the billets of combined anti-armor team platoon sergeant and deployed to Afghanistan in early 2009.  Upon his return he was promoted to first sergeant and transferred to Golf Company 2d Battalion, 8th Marines where he served as the company first sergeant.  He deployed again to Afghanistan in November 2010.

In May 2011, 1st Sgt. Goodyear was selected to attend Class 62 of the Army Sergeant Major Academy.   

In July 2012, 1st Sgt. Goodyear was assigned as the Inspector and Instructor first sergeant of Headquarters Company,  25th  Marine Regiment. He was promoted to the rank of sergeant major and transferred to Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 211, from May 2015 until April 2018.

In May 2018 he assumed the responsibilities as the Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 11 sergeant major until his transfer to Marine Air Control Group 38 in October 2019 until March 2022.

In March 2022 until February 2024 he was assigned as the command senior enlisted leader for Marine Corps Systems Command.

His personal awards include the Purple Heart Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (w/two gold star in lieu of 3rd award), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (w/four gold stars in lieu of 5th award and valor device), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (w/one gold star in lieu of 2nd award), and Combat Action Ribbon (w/one gold star in lieu of 2nd award).
