MARINE CORPS RECRUITING COMMAND, QUANTICO, Va. -- The Marine Corps Recruiting Command welcomed a new commanding general during a Change of Command ceremony here, at the historic Harry Lee Hall, May 22, 2001.
Lieutenant General Garry L. Parks relinquished command to Maj. Gen. Jerry D. Humble during a ceremony attended by the Commandant of the Marine Corps, Gen. James L. Jones, and nearly 200 special guests.
Humble took command of MCRC after serving three years as the Commander, U.S. Marine Corps Forces Korea and as the Assistant Chief of Staff, C/J-5, United Nations Command, Combined Forces, United States Forces Korea.
Parks, who commanded MCRC from Oct. 7, 1998 to May 22, 2001, took over as Deputy Commandant for Manpower and Reserve Affairs.
During their remarks, both generals expressed their excitement about their new jobs.
"I'm looking forward to taking over as the Deputy Commandant for M&RA, but I am truly going to miss being in command of really great Marines," said Parks.
"I know I am going to have some big shoes to fill, but I'm excited about the Marines and I'm excited about being the Commanding General of this command!" Humble exclaimed.
One of Humble's first priorities as the commanding general is to get out and meet his recruiters at the individual recruiting stations.
