MARINE CORPS RECRUITING COMMAND, QUANTICO, Va. -- The Marine Corps is seeking 50 volunteers to participate in the Quadrennial National Boy Scout Jamboree July 23 through August 1, 2001 at Fort A.P. Hill, Va.
More than 40,000 scouts from the United States and 15 foreign countries are expected to attend the national event.
Officer and enlisted Marines are being requested to fill positions as event staff and event coordinators for Scoutopia, Auto Mechanics Merit Badge, morning PT, driver support, support to the Joint Distinguished Visitors Bureau and for the Military Jamboree Support Center. Volunteers will also be needed to support the Marine Corps Battle Color Detachment and the MCRD Parris Island Band.
Although volunteers are needed throughout the entire event, Marines may volunteer for any time from July 11 through Aug. 1, but are not obligated to volunteer every day.
All Marines that are attending the Jamboree with any Boy Scout troop from throughout the world must notify the Marine Corps Recruiting Command to coordinate their presence and activities at the Jamboree.
Marines who have prior scouting experience are desired, but experience is not required. Commanders are asked to ensure they only allow those Marines who are in good moral standing to represent the Marine Corps as volunteers.
Interested volunteers should fax to MCRC their name, scouting experience, social security number, dates of availability, rank, military occupational specialty, unit name and address, e-mail address, phone number and requested duty assignment as well as a letter authorizing permissive Temporary Additional Duty from their commanding officer.
The Assistant Chief of Staff for Advertising, MCRC must receive all submissions by close of business on May 23, 2001.
Volunteers will be notified of their individual selection, acceptance and assignment no later than June 1, 2001.
