Lt. Gen. Richard E. Carey USMC (ret.) presents a plaque to Ellen R. Gordon, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer - Tootsie Roll Industries, Inc., at the Hyatt Regency, Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, Sept. 8, 2016, for the support that Tootsie Rolls provided Marines during the Koran War. Marines requested a resupply of 60-millimeter mortars using code word “Tootsie Rolls”. Instead of the of mortar rounds, Marines received pallet loads of actual candy. The sugar provided instant energy for the starving Marines and many of the “The Chosin Few,” credit their survival to Tootsie Rolls. (Official Marine Corps photo by Sgt Alfredo Ferrer/ Released)
