Brigadier Gen. Paul Kennedy speaks to attendees of the U.S. Wrestling Foundation Gala in Los Angeles, June 9, 2016. The Marine Corps joined a host of VIPs in in sending off Team USA as they compete in the World Cup, their last competition before the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro and awarded two young future leaders at the gala. Marine recruiters view combat sports (professional and amateur wrestling and mixed martial arts) as excellent programming venues to reach a large portion of the Marine Corps’ enlisted and officer recruiting prospects. Principles taught to student wrestlers such as discipline, physical fitness, aggressive attitude and mental and physical toughness align with Marine Corps principles.
