U.S. Marine Corps Capt. Daniel Cartica, Marine Officer Instructor at Northwestern University, competed in the 2016 World Marathon Challenge to honor and commemorate the Marines and sailor who were killed during the Chattanooga Terrorist Attack. The event which took place over seven consecutive days from Jan. 23 - Jan. 29 included seven full marathons on all seven continents. Following the event, Cartica was notified that he surpassed the previous world record by 14 minutes and attributed his inspiration and motivation to the Marines and sailor killed in Chattanooga, Tenn.
