Officer Candidate Class celebrates 75 years of operation aboard Marine Corps Base Quantico, Nov. 24. With the increasing needs of World War II, Col. Lemuel Shepard Jr., also a future Commandant, headed a special unit tasked with training additional officer candidates, which became known as the Officer Candidates Class, in July 1940.
