Major General Walker M. Field currently serves as the Commanding General of Marine Corps Recruiting Command. He was previously assigned as the Deputy Director for Operations, National Joint Operations Intelligence Center, Operations Team Three, J-3, Joint Staff. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in May of 1991 and served as an active duty artilleryman with 10th Marine Regiment before being commissioned through the Enlisted Commissioning Program in December 1993.
As a company grade officer, his operational assignments were as a Forward Observer, Fire Direction Officer, Liaison Officer, and Battalion S-3A with 1st Battalion, 12th Marines from 1994-97; Deputy Comptroller, 2nd FSSG from 1997-00; Bravo Battery and Headquarters Battery Commanding Officer, and as the Logistics Officer, Operations Officer, and Executive Officer, 1st Battalion, 10th Marines from 2001-04. As a battery commander, he served with Task Force Tarawa during Operation Iraqi Freedom.
As a field grade officer, his operational assignments were Battalion Commander (Acting), 3rd Battalion 12th Marines 2008-09 and Executive Officer, 12th Marine Regiment 2009-10; Battalion Commander, 5th Battalion, 10th Marines from 2010-12; Division Fire Support Coordinator and Regimental Commander 11th Marine Regiment 2016-18; Chief of Staff 4th Marine Division 2018-19; and Chief of Staff, Marine Forces Reserve 2019-20.
His supporting establishment assignments include Commanding Officer, Recruiting Station Dallas 2004-07; AC/S G3, Marine Corps Recruiting Command 2015-16; CMC Fellow, Council on Foreign Relations 2020-21, Commanding General, Education Command and President, Marine Corps University 2021-2022, Commanding General, Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island; and Commanding General, Eastern Recruiting Region 2022-2024.
His joint duty assignment was as Division Chief, Joint Doctrine Division, Joint Staff J7 from 2013- 15.
His professional military education includes: TBS Basic Officer Course (General’s Honor Roll), Field Artillery Officer’s Basic Course; Amphibious Warfare School; Marine Corps Command and Staff College (Masters of Military Studies); and National War College (Master of Science in National Security Strategy).
Major General Field earned a Bachelor of Arts in Banking Finance from the University of Mississippi and a resident Masters of Business Administration from Campbell University. He is married and has one son and two daughters.
