Master Gunnery Sgt. Michael R. Abragan

Master Gunnery Sgt. Michael R. Abragan is currently the Chief Instructor, Recruiters School.

Master Gunnery Sgt. Abragan an Iligan City, Mindanao Philippines-native migrated to the United States in 1984. He then enlisted in the Selected Marine Corps Reserves on 13 July 1994 from Skokie, Illinois. In June 1995, upon graduation from Evanston Township High School, he reported to Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego for recruit training.  He graduated from MCRD San Diego in September 1995 and reported to the Marine Combat Training at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, Calif.  After completion of the MCT and MOS School in Fort Lee, Va. Pfc. Abragan was assigned to H&S Co, 2nd Battalion, 24th Marines in Chicago and served as a Food Service Subsistence Clerk.

In January 1996, Pfc. Abragan attended the University of Illinois in Chicago. While assigned to 2/24 from 1996-1997, he was promoted to lance corporal. Lance Cpl. Abragan participating in several military exercises such as Amphibious Operations Training II, Combined Arms Exercise, and Joint Task Force 6 Los Padres National Forest Counter Drug Operations.  In March 1998, he was promoted to the rank of corporal and served as a Food Service Specialist attending the course. Upon his return, Cpl. Abragan served on the ADSW- Recruiter Aide Program for RS Chicago 9MCD.

In January 1999, Cpl. Abragan was promoted to the rank of sergeant. During this period Sgt. Abragan, graduated from the University of Illinois-Chicago, while serving as the unit MCMAP Instructor and SACO for H&S Co, 2/24. Sgt. Abragan was promoted to staff sergeant in December 2001. Staff Sgt. Abragan was selected on the Active Reserve Program as a Career Retention Specialist, reporting to Site Support Staff Anacostia, Washington, DC, in April 2004 where he was later promoted to the rank of gunnery sergeant.

Gunnery Sgt. Abragan deployed to Fallujah, Iraq, with I MEF Regimental Combat 5, 4th Civil Affairs Group from Jul 2006-June 2007 as a security team chief. Upon his return from deployment in July 2007, Gunnery Sgt. Abragan reported to Recruiting Station Frederick, 4th Marine Corps District on the Enlisted Active Duty Program. Gunnery Sgt. Abragan served as a recruiter, SNCOIC, and MEPS liaison. He augmented from the EAD program in 2010 to the active component and earning the Career Recruiter MOS, 8412.

In February 2011, Gunnery Sgt. Abragan was promoted to the rank of master sergeant where he later received orders in January of 2013 to report to Recruiting San Diego 12th Marine Corps District serving as an Assistant Recruiter Instructor, Operations Chief, and as an Officer Selection Assistant. In July 2016, Master Sgt. Abragan received orders to activate the newly formed unit Recruiting Station Riverside serving as their inaugural Recruiter Instructor.  He was promoted to his current rank of master gunnery sergeant in September of 2016. 

In April 2018, Master Gunnery Sgt.  Abragan received orders to Recruiting Station Chicago 9th Marine Corps District to assume all duties and responsibilities as the Recruiter Instructor.  He then reported to Marine Corps Recruiting Command on Sep 2020, where Master Gunnery Sgt. Abragan assumed the duty as the Officer Programs Operations Chief. On February 2022, Master Gunnery Sgt. Abragan filled the Assistant Operations Chief in the Enlisted Operations and later assumed the role as the AS/C-G3 Operations Chief.  

Master Gunnery Sgt. Abragan’s decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal w/ (2) gold stars, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal w/ (3) gold stars and Combat Valor device.
