Lieutenant Colonel Strehl attended Central Michigan University where he was a student-athlete on the University’s Division I football team, he graduated and was commissioned in July 2008. After completing The Basic School and the Armor Officer Basic Course in 2009, he reported to 1st Tank Battalion, where he served as a Tank Platoon Commander and Tank Company Executive Officer. He deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom: first in 2010 to Camp Dwyer Afghanistan with Company C, 1st Tank Battalion attached to Regimental Combat Team 7, and again in 2012 to Combat Outpost Shir Ghazay with Company A, 1st Tank Battalion where he participated in Operation JAWS while attached to Regimental Combat Team 6.
In January 2013, he reported to Recruiting Station Albuquerque, NM, and served as Officer Selection Officer for the Officer Selection Team in Lubbock, Texas. Following this tour, he attended Expeditionary Warfare School in Quantico, VA.
In May 2015 after graduation, he again reported to 1st Tank Battalion where he assumed command of Company A and later took command of Headquarters and Service Company.
In July 2018, he reported to Marine Corps Training Mission, United Arab Emirates where he served as the senior armor advisor to the commander of the 61st Tank Battalion, Kalifa bin Zayed Brigade, Presidential Guard. He deployed in support of Unit Enhancement Training (UET) to Twentynine Palms, CA and to Mountain Warfare Training Center in Bridgeport, CA. He also served as the Team Deputy for the Marine Advisors at the brigade headquarters in Dubai, UAE.
In July 2019, he reported to 4th Tank Battalion, 4th Marine Division and served as the Assistant Inspector Instructor. During this tour, Marine Corps Bulletin 5400 was published which directed the divestment of the armor community as a result of the service’s Force Design 2030 initiatives. In April 2021, he conducted lateral move into the intelligence primary military occupation specialty and received orders to U.S. Marine Corps Forces Pacific Command where he served in G2 Plans as an exercise planner and international engagements officer.
In June 2022, he conducted a PCA to 3d Radio Battalion, III MIG, III MEF where he served as Information Warfare Company Commander and Battalion Executive Officer. In 2024, he was promoted and reassigned to the U.S. Pacific Fleet, where he served in the OMIOC.
Lieutenant Colonel Strehl’s personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal with gold star in lieu of second award, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with four gold stars in lieu of fifth award and combat “V” distinguishing device, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and the Combat Action Ribbon.
