Miguel Santos, a future Marine with Recruiting Sub-Station Fullerton, Recruiting Station Orange County, decided back in January of 2021 that he wanted to make a change in his life. Since January, Santos has lost over 50 pounds and has been working hard throughout the year in order to lose weight and be in better shape for recruit training. Grit, Determination and Dedication: Young Man’s Journey Preparing for the Marine Corps

Miguel Santos, a 20 year old Anaheim native started his journey preparing for the Marine Corps in January of 2021. His close friend Nicholas Porter, a future Marine with Recruiting Sub-Station Fullerton, Recruiting Station Orange County, was attending physical training as a guest when he invited Santos to come along with him one Thursday afternoon.

Future Marine loses 186 pounds to earn title United States Marine

He stood tall, looking over the top of everyone in the crowded restaurant. He could be spotted from a mile away, not because of his height, but because of the uniform he wore. His pride and confidence made him seem that much taller than everyone around him. His blood stripe lined the side of his pant leg and his shoes were so perfectly shined, Gabriel Mendez Ramirez could see his reflection staring back at him. Ramirez’s eyes lit up observing this seemingly perfect person. He knew nothing about the uniform he wore or who he was, so he marched up to him and asked. He was a United States Marine and from that day forward, Ramirez was determined that he would one day become a part of the Corps and earn his Eagle, Globe and Anchor.

East Bakersfield High School Graduate loses more than 70 pounds, becomes a Marine

Setting a goal is simple, but being able to accomplish that goal can become a challenge. We become interrupted by life’s distractions, and instead of working toward accomplishing our goal, we replace it with excuses. Few are able to push through adversity by dedicating their time and effort in taking the next steps toward accomplishing that goal.
