Sgt. John A. Martinez reviews the design he submitted for a ‘military athlete’ themed t-shirt design competition. Gunnery Sgt. Troy Campbell reached out to Martinez after hearing about the competition and inspired him to make his design after the motto 'Rack or Ruck'. The motto is a metaphor for the decisions that either contribute toward bettering yourself or following the status quo. Campbell is the procurement chief for Operations at Marine Corps Recruiting Command, and is a native of Madison Heights, Va. Martinez is the graphics illustrator for MCRC, and is a Houston, Texas native.
