Major Brian Donlon

Major Brian Donlon, commanding officer Recruiting Station San Diego, Calif.

Major Brian Donlon was born in Bethesda, Maryland on 11 June 1979.  He graduated from the University of Virginia in 2002 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History and a Master of Teaching Degree in Secondary Social Studies and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant.   

Major Donlon completed The Basic School, Quantico, Virginia in January 2003, graduating with distinction.  After completing the Infantry Officer Course in May 2003, he reported to 2d Battalion, 6th Marines in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.  In September 2003, he deployed as a Rifle Platoon Commander to Okinawa, Japan as part of a Unit Deployment Program. In September  2004, he deployed as a Combined Anti-Armor Team (CAAT) Platoon Commander to Baghdad, Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.  In September 2005, he deployed as a CAAT Platoon Commander to Fallujah, Iraq. 

In June 2006, Major Donlon reported to The Basic School.  He served as the Infantry Platoon Commander in Combat Instructor Company and as an instructor on the faculty of the Infantry Officer Course including serving as Class Advisor for IOC Class 4-08.   

In May 2010, Major Donlon graduated with distinction from Expeditionary Warfare School and reported to 3d Battalion, 8th Marines in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.  He served as the India Company Commander, deploying in September 2010 on the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit.  In January 2011, the Battalion Landing Team went ashore to the Upper Gereshk Valley of Helmand Province, Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. 

In May 2011, he assumed the duties of the Battalion Operations Officer, deploying in April 2012 to Central and Southern Helmand Province where 3d Battalion, 8th Marines replaced four battalions as part of the reduction in forces. In May 2013 Major Donlon reported to 12th Marine Corps District to assume the duties of the Commanding Officer, Recruiting Station San Diego.    

Major Donlon’s personal decorations include the Bronze Star Medal with combat distinguishing device and gold star in lieu of second award, the Purple Heart, the Navy Commendation Medal with combat distinguishing device and gold star and the Combat Action Ribbon with gold star. Major Donlon is married to the former Ms. Maureen Flynn of Woodbridge, Virginia.  They have two sons, Sean Patrick and Cormac Joseph.
