Employers get a glimpse of Youngstown mission

11 Jul 2011 | Staff Report

The engines of a C-130 Hercules roaring to life, fire arms blazing as terrorists attack and take hostages, and flames shooting into the blue sky and engulfing the hulk of a Hercules during a mock training scenario. These were just a few of the sights and sounds that approximately 60 civilian employers of unit reservists experienced during the 910th Airlift Wing's annual Employer Awareness Day here, July 10.

The goal of Employer Awareness Day is to increase the awareness of civilian employers regarding the importance of the role that their employees, Air Force Reservists, have in the U.S. military and the defense of the nation. The program, conducted in cooperation with the National Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), allows the employers to experience several of the capabilities the 910th Airlift Wing's unit members provide to national defense and gives the employers the opportunity to visit with Reservists in their military work centers.

ESGR is an organization within the Department of Defense with branches in each state. These state organizations assist employers as well as reservists in matters concerning the rights and responsibilities of Reservists as well as the responsibilities of the employers under federal law. ESGR participates in these types of programs to show appreciation to employers for their support of their employees who serve in the Guard and Reserve forces. To learn more about ESGR, visit the organization's website at www.esgr.org.
