District Spouse Orientation Course
Since 2013 the 12th Marine Corps District (12th MCD) has hosted a District Spouse Orientation Course (DSOC). This course was designed for spouses who are new to the command and to the Recruiting Duty lifestyle. The DSOC takes training from various programs and brings them together to address the challenges Marines and their family members may encounter during their tour. Held in a supportive and friendly environment, DSOC orients spouses to the day-to-day recruiting operations. It also helps spouses understand and adapt to the unique challenges that may be encountered. DSOC is essential in the development of spouse and family resiliency, as it provides spouses at the onset of recruiting duty important information, resources, and access to subject matter experts. DSOC also provides spouses with resource information, networking opportunities, and skills for navigating to a successful tour on recruiting duty.
For our in-person DSOC events, the schedule varies slightly, as it includes additional activities, such as, Color Ceremony and Graduation Ceremony attendance, team building activities, a self-defense class, and dinner with the District Command Team. Lodging is reserved at the picturesque Navy Lodge on the North Island beach. Flights and lodging costs are covered up front, so there are no costs for the spouses to attend. Ground transportation will be provided for you to and from the airport, hotel, and training site. Attendees will received Invitational Travel Orders to attend. Seating is limited, so if you are interested, and are within your first year of Recruiting Duty, please contact your Recruiting Station Uniformed Readiness Coordinator to register. Have a question about this event? Please contact the District Deployment Readiness Coordinator or your RS Uniformed Readiness Coordinator.
