Sergeant Major Lanpolsaen was born in March 1969 in Thailand. He graduated from Murphy High School, North Carolina, and enlisted in the Marine Corps on October 16, 1989. Upon completion of recruit training as honor graduate and being meritoriously promoted, Sergeant Major Lanpolsaen attended Basic Combat Engineers School at Camp Lejeune, N.C. There he graduated with honors and was meritoriously promoted and assigned to Company B, 3d Combat Engineer Battalion, 3d Marine Division, for duty as a combat engineer. From October 1990 to March 1991, he was attached to MAGTF 4-90 and participated in security operations in the Republic of the Philippines. While at 3d CEB, he was meritoriously promoted to corporal and participated in Operation Fiery Vigil in the Philippines for humanitarian assistance, disaster relief and clean-up operations during the Mount Pinatubo, volcano eruption.
Sergeant Major Lanpolsaen was transferred to Company C, 2nd Landing Support Battalion, for duty as a shore party engineer from July 1992 to October 1995. While at 2nd LSB, he was selected as NCO of the quarter and participated in Operation Ocean Venture 93 in Puerto Rico. He was later meritoriously promoted to sergeant and deployed to Norway for cold weather training for Operation Strong Resolve 95.
Upon reenlistment, Sergeant Major Lanpolsaen reported to Marine Corps Recruiters School. He graduated in the top 10 percent with academic honors, and was assigned to Recruiting Station Jacksonville, Florida. In March of 1998 he was promoted to staff sergeant and was serving as a canvassing recruiter. After a successful tour from recruiting duty, Sergeant Major Lanpolsaen was assigned to Combat Service Support Group 3, 3d Force Service Support Group. While there he participated in operations on Okinawa, in Korea, Australia, and Thailand. He was promoted to gunnery sergeant on 1 November 2001.
In January 2002 he was assigned to Marine Corps Engineer School, where he served as a demolitions instructor at Basic Combat Engineer, Combat Engineer Officers Course, and Combat Engineer NCO’s course. There he was selected as Instructor of the Quarter and Instructor of the Year in 2003.
In April 2005 Sergeant Major Lanpolsaen reported to 3d Battalion 7th Marines, 1st Marine Division in Twentynine Palms, California. In September 2005, he deployed to Ramadi, Iraq, for OIF 04-06. Upon returning from Iraq in April, 2006, he was reassigned to Weapons Company. He deployed again with 3/7 to Ramadi from April to November 2007 and later participated in Operation Foal Eagle in March 2008 in the Republic of Korea. In April 2008 Sergeant Major Lanpolsaen reported to Support Company, Combat Service Support Group 3 and deployed with the battalion in November 2008 to May 2009 to Helmand Province, Afghanistan in support of OEF with SPMAGTF-A. He was promoted to his current rank in March 2010 and reported to 3d Intelligence Battalion, III MHG, III MEF. In April 2013, he transferred to Combat Logistics Regiment 35, 3D Marine Logistics Group and was assigned as the regiment sergeant major. In January 2015, Sergeant Major Lanpolsaen was slated and transferred to the office of the Inspector General of the Marine Corps.
