Colonel Terence D. Trenchard

Colonel Trenchard currently serves as the Chief of Staff, Marine Corps Recruiting Command, Quantico, Virginia.

Colonel Trenchard was born in Hartford, Connecticut, and was commissioned in June 1989 after graduating from the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts.

Upon completing The Basic School in Quantico, Virginia and the Field Artillery Officer Basic Course at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, he was assigned to the 2d Marine Division, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina where he served as a Forward Observer, Fire Direction Officer, Platoon Commander, and Adjutant in 2d Battalion, 10th Marines. In 1993, he reported to the 6th Marine Corps District and served as the Operations Officer and Executive Officer for Recruiting Station Jacksonville, Florida.

After completing the Field Artillery Officer Advanced Course at Fort Sill, he returned to 2nd Marine Division in October 1996 and served as the Battalion Logistics Officer and Battery Commander for Battery L, 3rd Battalion, 10th Marines. In 1999, he was assigned to the 8th Marine Corps District and served as the Commanding Officer of Recruiting Station Oklahoma City, Oklahoma until July 2002. From 2002 to 2003, he was a student at the Naval Command and Staff College at the U.S. Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island. From 2003 to 2006, he was assigned to III Marine Expeditionary Force in Okinawa, Japan and served as the Target Information Officer, Assistant Force Fires Coordinator, and Aide to the Commanding General. In 2006, he was transferred to Headquarters, Marine Corps in Quantico, Virginia and served in the Manpower Management Enlisted Assignments Branch as the Head of Enlisted Retention and Career Counseling. In 2007, he was assigned to the 1st Marine Division and served as the Commanding Officer of 5th Battalion, 11th Marines until April 2009. From April 2009 to May 2010, he served as the Team Leader and Senior Advisor of the 27th Iraqi Army Brigade Military Transition Team in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. From 2010 to 2011, he was a student at the U.S. Army War College at Carlisle Barracks, Pennsylvania. On 1 July 2011, he assumed command of the 4th Marine Corps District in New Cumberland, Pennsylvania until he reported to the Marine Corps Recruiting Command in July 2014 for duty as the Assistant Chief of Staff (G3) / Director of National Operations .

Colonel Trenchard holds a Master of Arts degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the U. S. Naval War College and a Master of Strategic Studies degree from the U.S. Army War College. His personal decorations include the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star, the Meritorious Service Medal with three gold stars in lieu of fourth award, the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with gold star in lieu of second award, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and the Combat Action Ribbon with gold star in lieu of second award. He and his wife have three children.
