Master Gunnery Sergeant Alain Reyes
Chief Instructor, Recruiters School

Master Gunnery Sergeant Reyes serves as Chief Instructor, U.S. Marine Corps Recruiters School.

He was born on 19 August 1973 in Mexico City, Mexico and was raised in Chicago, IL.   He graduated from East Aurora High School, Aurora, Illinois in 1991.  He enlisted into the Marine Corps delayed entry program in September 1990, shipping to recruit training in June 1991 and graduating as a Meritorious PFC in September 1991.

Upon completion of Marine Combat Training, PFC Reyes went on Permissive Temporary Assigned Duty for recruiter assistance in RS Chicago, RSS Aurora, IL; where he was meritorious promoted to the rank of LCpl for referring four qualified applicants who enlisted in the Marine Corps.  He then reported to Camp Delmar, CA to attend Basic Motor Transportation School which he completed for MOS 3531.  LCpl Reyes first duty station was H&S Company Motor Transport Section, Marine Corps Base Camp Fuji, Japan in January1992. During his tour, LCpl Reyes served as the driver for the Commanding Officer for Camp Fuji, Japan. LCpl Reyes was responsible to transport the CO and all distinguished guest around the various bases on mainland Japan, assuring that the CO and them arrived safely and on time to all scheduled appointments. LCpl Reyes earned numerous meritorious masts during that time.

After successful completion overseas, LCpl Reyes was assigned to MWSS 371, Marine Corps Air Station Yuma, AZ from June 1993 to June 1995 where he was promoted to the rank of Corporal upon arrival.  Cpl Reyes was assigned as one of the drivers to assist all units and training conducted on base. He was assigned as one of the section leaders of a transport unit assigned to assist Weapons Training Exercises at scheduled times until the end of his first tour.  While attached to MWSS 371, Cpl Reyes earned his first Navy / Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and completed his first enlistment with an Honorable Discharge on June 23, 1995.

During his inactive time, Cpl Reyes worked as a detention / deputy officer for the Yuma County Sheriff’s Dept. During this time he was also attached to Phoenix, AZ USMCR Bulk Fuel Unit in July of 1995, where he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. In June 1996 to January 1997, Sgt Reyes requested and was placed in the Recruiter Aide Program to assist the recruiting force at Recruiting Sub Station Yuma, AZ, RS San Diego at that time.  Sgt Reyes earned numerous Meritorious Masts and one Navy/ Marine Corps Achievement Medal (2nd Award). Sgt Reyes was recognized as one of the Top Recruiter Aides for 12 MCD during that period. 

In January of 1997, Sgt Reyes moved back home to the Chicago, IL area and worked for a security company where he earned his certifications to later own his own business in security.  Meanwhile, he was attached to the Marine Corps Reserve unit in Joliet, IL; awaiting to get picked up by RS Chicago, 9th MCD for the recruiter aide program.  On October of 1997, Sgt Reyes was accepted into the Rec. Aide program where he once again was recognized as one of the Top Recruiter Aides for the 9 MCD, and earned various awards, meritorious masts and another Navy / Marine Corps Achievement Medal (3rd Award).  On June 1998, he was accepted into the Extended Active Duty Program as a Recruiter and reported in July 1998 to Recruiter’s School at MCRD San Diego, CA.

Sgt Reyes graduated Recruiter School at the end of August 1998.  He was further assigned as a canvassing recruiter for RSS Dupage South, RS Chicago from September 1998 to April 2000.  During that period Sgt Reyes received multiple awards and was recognized as the Rookie Recruiter of the Year for Recruiting Station Chicago FY99, Recruiter of the Year for 9MCD FY99, Recruiter of the Year for WRR FY99 and Top Recruiter of the Nation for MCRC FY99 in which he was meritoriously promoted by the Commandant of the Marine Corps, General Krulak to the rank of Staff Sergeant and was awarded a Navy / Marine Corps Commendation Medal and a Navy / Marine Corps Achievement Medal (3rd Award).

On April 2000, SSgt Reyes assumed duties as the SNCOIC of RSS Dupage South, RS Chicago from April 2000 to October 2002. During this period SSgt Reyes was recognized as Station of the Year for FY 2001 and was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant, he was also awarded the Navy / Marine Commendation Medal (2nd Award), along with the Navy / Marine Corps Achievement Medals (4th and 5th Awards) for winning multiple Recruiting Offensive Competitions throughout the district.

In July of 2002 GySgt Reyes was accepted back into the Regular Marine Corps Component and went on to attend the Career Recruiter Course and obtain the MOS of 8412 in August 2002.  In October 2002 Gunnery Sergeant Reyes was transferred to the RS in Chicago to be the Assistant Recruiter Instructor.  GySgt Reyes was the Assistant Recruiter Instructor from October 2002 to October of 2003, and then he assumed duties as the Recruiter Instructor from October 2003 to March 2004. 

In March of 2004 GySgt Reyes attended the Advance Staff Academy in Camp Pendleton, CA. and in conjunction received orders to report to Recruiter School MCRD, San Diego to become an Instructor for the Basic Recruiter Course. GySgt Reyes was a Formal School Instructor from June 2004 to June 2006 where he was recognized 10 out of 12 classes as the Top Instructor of Basic Recruiter School where he earned numerous awards and was awarded the Navy / Marine Corps Achievement Medal (6th and 7th Award).  In June 2006 to June 2008 he was assigned as the Senior Instructor of Sales and Communication, and was promoted on July 2006 to the rank of Master Sergeant.  After a successful tour at the Basic Recruiter School, MSgt Reyes was awarded the Navy / Marine Corps Commendation (3rd Award).

In June 2008, MSgt Reyes received orders back to RS Chicago, 9 MCD where he assumed duties as the SNCOIC of RSS Dupage North. During that period Master Sergeant Reyes was recognized as Station of the Year for FY 2009. He then assumed the duties as the Assistant Recruiter Instructor of RS Chicago from October 2009 to September 2010. In September 2010, MSgt Reyes assumed the duties as the Operations Chief of RS Chicago. MSgt Reyes was awarded the Navy / Marine Corps Commendation (4TH Award) for his success at RS Chicago.

MSgt Reyes volunteered and received orders to RS Salt Lake City, 12 MCD to assume the duties as the Recruiter Instructor In August 2011 to November 2014. During this period MSgt Reyes was selected and was promoted to the rank of Master Gunnery Sergeant on December of 2012. MGySgt Reyes completed a successful tour as a Recruiter Instructor and was selected as the Training Team Chief of 12MCD. MGySgt Reyes was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal (1st Award) for his success as the RI of RS Salt Lake City. MGySgt Reyes was also awarded the Marine Corps Medal for heroic action during his time in Salt Lake City, UT.
