Reporting In to the District Headquarters

The District's Commanding Officer is ultimately responsible for all contracting and shipping of enlisted Marines and Marine Officers in the Southwest. The headquarters' staff handles the administrative, information technology, fiscal, legal, public affairs, quality assurance and recruiting operations for the District in direct support of its eight Recruiting Stations.

When arriving at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (DFW), your options are to coordinate with your sponsor for transportation or to contact the officer of the day by calling (214) 697-8339, or the duty non-commissioned officer by calling (214) 733-3528 for transportation to NAS Fort Worth JRB. Family Housing on base is open Monday - Friday from 8 a.m. to – 4:30 p.m. and can reached by calling (817) 782-5711.

All vehicles being driven on base must have a Department of Defense decal or a temporary pass issued by the Visitor Control Center. Contact the Visitor Control Center by calling (817) 782-3058. To get a decal or a temp pass you must have military ID, drivers license, vehicle insurance, and license plate numbers.

Off Base Vehicle Registration

To register your vehicle in Texas, you will need a Safety Inspection, Title and proof of insurance that meets Texas standards, 20/40/15. You can register at the Tarrant County Tax Office Location, 100 E Weatherford. For more information, call 817-884-1100.

Registration & Licensing Requirements
Texas State law requires you to have sufficient liability insurance and a valid driver’s license in order to operate a vehicle. The term “vehicle” generally includes automobiles, motorcycles, vans, trailers and boats regularly parked or garaged overnight. Further, your vehicle must be properly registered. Even though you are in the Military, you may be required to register your vehicle in-state and obtain an in-state license within a few months of moving. State Laws
You and your passengers must always wear seatbelts while driving, you will be ticketed and issued heavy fines if seatbelts are not secured. State law requires that all children under 5 years and 36" in height be properly restrained in child seats. Some states also require younger, smaller children to sit in the back seat.

Motorcycles and their operators are subject to special laws. If you own and operate a motorcycle, you must comply with those laws. Visit the State Department of Motor Vehicles website for more information.

Obtaining a Texas Drivers Liscense
When applying for a Texas driver's license, you will be required to show your birth certificate and social security card. If taking a driving test, you will also be required to have proof of insurance. Some Department of Public Safety locations in the area are:

Boat Registration
You can obtain a Boat License through the Texas Parks and Wild Life Department. Call toll free, 800-792-1112 for more information. Cost is determined by length of boat and can be purchased at Law Enforcement and County Tax Assessors offices.

Government Housing
NAS JRB Fort Worth has approximately 83 units and there is currently a 6-12 month waiting list. All new arrivals are strongly encouraged to add their names to the on-base waiting list as soon as possible after arrival to NAS JRB Fort Worth.

Sign up for housing within 30 days of your arrival. Do not allow your move-in assistance to expire. Signing up within your first 30 days of arrival will entitle you to continued government funded move-in assistance in the event you receive on-base housing in the future.

Remember, you can always turn down an offer for on-base housing. Your wait time will start on the day you add your name to the waiting list. Wait time will not be back dated to your arrival date.

Currently, there are no plans to add additional units. Most service members assigned to the base can expect to live in community housing. The Base Housing Referral Office can provide information about available community housing. Our Housing Referral professionals can assist you in making your transition easier and with finding the right home. If you'd like to receive a Housing Information Packet by mail, contact Family Housing.

Non-Government Housing
Housing Referral Office-(HRO) --The HRO is your contact for any problems you may encounter such as discrimination complaints, tenant/landlord disputes, or any questions or problems about off-base housing is the HRO. The HRO will provide you a list of rentals with corresponding locator maps and give you information regarding the communities in which the rentals are located. All renters should carry renters insurance against fire, theft and other damages. The property owner's insurance will cover the property but not the renters personal property. Ask about the Rental Partnership Program if planning to rent an apartment. Transfer coverage after you arrive.
