Major Micheal Dorsey

Major Micheal A. Dorsey was born aboard the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center in Twenty-nine Palms, California in 1985 while his father served there. Raised in Portland, Oregon, Major Dorsey joined the Marines in 2008.

He graduated on the Commanding Officer’s Honors List in Officer Candidate Course 199 at the Officer Candidates School in Quantico, Virginia, commissioning in December of 2008 as a Second Lieutenant. Second Lieutenant Dorsey reported to The Basic School where he graduated on the Commanding General’s Honor Roll in 2009 and was selected as an Infantry Officer. Upon completion of the Infantry Officer Course, he reported to 3d Battalion, 5th Marines, 1st Marine Division in Camp Pendleton, California.

Second Lieutenant Dorsey was assigned as the Weapons Platoon Commander for Company L. In 2010 he was selected to serve as an Advisor Team Officer in Charge where he deployed in September of 2010 in support of OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM 10.2 to Sangin District, Helmand Province, Afghanistan and conducted combat operations with the Afghanistan National Army.  Promoted during the deployment, he returned in 2011 and was selected as the 81mm Mortar Platoon Commander. First Lieutenant Dorsey deployed in 2012 with Battalion Landing Team (BLT) 3/5 on the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) in support of WESTPAC 2-12. In addition to the mortar platoon, he served as the Tactical Recovery of Aircraft and Personnel (TRAP) platoon commander for the 15th MEU. He was promoted to the rank of Captain during the deployment.

Captain Dorsey received orders to The Basic School in 2013 where he served as the MOUT (Military Operations on Urban Terrain) Package Primary and Warfighting Instructor. He then served as a Staff Platoon Commander for Company D 4-14 and Company B 2-15. In 2015 he was selected as the Aide-de-Camp, Commanding General, Training Command. In 2016 he executed orders to the Expeditionary Warfare School (EWS).

 Upon graduation of EWS in 2017 he was assigned to 2d Battalion, 5th Marines, 1st Marine Division as the Company Commander for Company E. He deployed with BLT 2/5 in support of the 31st MEU as the mechanized company in 2018. He was promoted to his current rank during the deployment.

In June of 2019 Major Dorsey reported to his current assignment as Commanding Officer, Recruiting Station Dallas.

He is a graduate of Officer Candidate School, The Basic School, Infantry Officer Course, the Army’s Mortar Leader Course, and the Expeditionary Warfare School. He holds Bachelor of Science degrees in Supply & Logistics Management and Business Administration from Portland State University.

Major Dorsey’s personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with two Gold Stars in lieu of third award, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with Combat Distinguishing Device & Gold Star in lieu of second award, and the Combat Action Ribbon.

Major Dorsey is married to the former Courtney McKinney of Portland, Oregon and they have three children; Easton, Kinsley, and Hadley.
