Major Travis L. Hord was born in Vandalia, Ohio on 18 August 1981. He enlisted in to the U.S. Marines in 1999 and was designated as an M1A1 Tank Crewman upon completion of recruit training at Parris Island, South Carolina. In 2001 he received the Navy-Marine Corps Scholarship and reported to the Virginia Military Institute where he completed an undergraduate degree with a Bachelor of Arts in History. He reported to The Basic School and Infantry Officers Course in Quantico, Virginia in 2005.
His first assignment as an Infantry Officer was as a Combined Anti-Armor Team (CAAT) Platoon Commander within the Anti-Terrorism Battalion as a part of the 4th Marine Expeditionary Brigade (MEB). There he deployed to the Diyala Province, Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF). His following assignment was to 2nd Battalion 9th Marines as the Executive Officer of Weapons Company and conducted a second combat deployment to Ramadi, Iraq.
In 2009 he reported to The Basic School to serve as an instructor within the combined arms section. During this period he also served as the Aide-de-Camp to the Commanding General of the Marine Corps University.
Upon completion of his B-Billet Major Hord reported to 3d Battalion and 5th Marines and deployed as the Executive Officer of the Iraqi Marine Corps Training Team in 2011 and the Assistant Operations Officer during a deployment with the 15th Expeditionary Unit in 2012-13. He commanded Weapons Company during a deployment with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit in 2014 and served as the Headquarters and Support Company Commander, and battalion operations officer until completion of his tour with the 5th Marine Regiment. Major Hord reported the Marine Corps Command and Staff College in 2015.
In 2016 Major Hord was assigned to Recruiting Station Baltimore where he currently serves as the commanding officer.
Major Hord is a graduate of the Expeditionary Warfare School (Non-Resident) and the Marine Corps Command and Staff College. His awards and decorations include the Navy Commendation Medal with 2 gold stars.
He his married to the former Jill Clay and has a son, Aiden, and a daughter, Ellanor.
