Major Miller was born in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, and raised in Mckinney, Texas. Having enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1995, first served as an infantryman with 3d Battalion, 5th Marines and later—in his college years--as a reserve infantryman with 1st Battalion, 23d Marines. In 2004, Major Miller graduated from the University of Texas-Austin with a major in Government. After commissioning and attending The Basic School, he reported to the Infantry Officer Course in Quantico, Virginia, and graduated in May of 2005.
Major Miller then reported to 3d Battalion, 5th Marines in Camp Pendleton, California. During his tour from 2005 to 2008, he served as a Rifle Platoon Commander and Company Executive Officer. Major Miller deployed twice in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM while serving with 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines.
In May of 2008, Major Miller reported to The Basic School where he served as a warfighting Instructor, Staff Platoon Commander, and Instructor at the Infantry Officers Course. From 2011-2012 Major Miller attended Expeditionary Warfare School and subsequently reported to 3d Battalion, 4th Marines.
Major Miller served as a rifle company commander and deployed in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM to the Sangin District, Helmand Province, Afghanistan while at 3d Battalion, 4th Marines. In 2014, Major Miller reported to 2d Battalion, 7th Marines to serve as the operations officer. During this tour, he participated in the first Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force-Crisis Response for Central Command. During the deployment, Major Miller participated in Operation INHERENT RESOLVE and served as the Operations Officer at Task Force Al Asad in Al Anbar Province, Iraq.
In August of 2015, Major Miller reported to Command and Staff College and graduated in June of 2016 with a Master’s degree in Military Studies.
Major Miller’s personal decorations include the Bronze Star with Gold Star, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with Gold Star and combat distinguishing device, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and the Combat Action Ribbon with Gold Star.
He is married and has three children.
