Marine receives Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal

U.S. Marine Corps Staff Sgt. Daeton Shafer, a native of San Juan, New Mexico, and 2003 graduate of Aztec High School in Aztec, New Mexico, recently received the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal for service with 3rd Marine Special Operations Battalion. The award is given to individuals who distinguish themselves by heroic or meritorious achievement for service while serving with the Navy or Marine Corps. Shaver received the award for playing a vital role in his battalions integration of global combat support for deployed Marines. Shafer currently serves as the 4th Marine Corps District Supply Chief at the Defense Distribution Center Susquehanna in New Cumberland, Pennsylvania. As supply chief, Shafer accounts for and maintains all equipment and assets which is an estimated six million dollars for the entire District, as well as purchases equipment for 4th MCD. Shafer enlisted in the Marine Corps July 2003. He has been stationed at Camp Pendleton, California; Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego; Okinawa, Japan; Camp Lejeune, North Carolina; New Cumberland, Pennsylvania, and he has also deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.  His awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, four Marine Corps Good Conduct Medals, the National Defense Service Medal, two Iraq Campaign Medals, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and three Sea Service Deployment Ribbons.
