Sergeant Major Chester Wilson III Sergeant Major, 4th Marine Corps District

Sergeant Major Wilson, enlisted in the United States Marine Corps Delayed Entry Program in July 1992 and completed recruit training at MCRD Parris Island, South Carolina October 1993.  Following recruit training, Sergeant Major Wilson attended Marine Combat Training at Camp Geiger, North Carolina and then reported to his primary MOS school at Marine Corps Logistics Base, Albany, Georgia. Upon completion of this assignment, he was designated a 3052, Packaging Specialist, and was promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal.

In April 1994, Sergeant Major Wilson reported to 3d Supply Battalion, 3d Force Service Support Group and fulfilled duties within the Battalion S-3. Sergeant Major Wilson was awarded Marine of the Month/Quarter and was promoted meritoriously to Corporal in December of 1996. Sergeant Major Wilson was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in January of 1997 and went on to assume the position of Color Sergeant for the Battalion. While stationed in Okinawa Japan, he took college courses with the University of Maryland.

Sergeant Major Wilson reported to 2d Marine Air Wing, 2d Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 14, Cherry Point, North Carolina in May of 1997 and assumed the position of Noncommissioned Officer-in-Charge, Supply Shipping Branch and Color Sergeant. While stationed here, he attended classes with Craven Community College.

In January of 2000, he reported for duty at Recruiting Station, Louisville Kentucky and Recruiting Substation Cincinnati, Ohio. Sergeant Major Wilson was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant in March of 2000, and went on to complete the Recruiting Noncommissioned Officer-in-Charge School located in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania in February 2002. Sergeant Major Wilson successfully completed recruiting duty in January 2003.

Sergeant Major Wilson reported to 2d Supply Battalion, 2d Force Service Support Group, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina in January 2003 and assumed the duties of Noncommissioned Officer-in-Charge of Receiving and Shipping at the Packaging, Packing and Preservation section. He was later reassigned as the Company Gunnery Sergeant for Headquarters and Service Company.  In June 2003, Sergeant Major Wilson was selected to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant and later promoted on February 1, 2004.

Sergeant Major Wilson reported to the Staff Noncommissioned Officers Academy as a student for the Advanced Course Class 3-04 on March 4, 2004. He was advanced to the job of Company First Sergeant in October 2004 to January 2005. Sergeant Major Wilson then transferred to the Material Distribution Company. Here, he performed several jobs at the Material Distribution Company from January to February 2005.

He then transferred to CLB-2 for deployment in the billet of SNCOIC of the Distribution Logistics Center of Al Asad. He was notified of his selection to the rank of 1stSgt on December 15, 2006. Subsequently, he was transferred back to 2nd Supply Battalion, Headquarters Company as the Company Gunnery Sergeant. Sergeant Major Wilson was frocked to First Sergeant on April 11, 2007.

Sergeant Major Wilson then reported to 2d Maintenance Battalion and then TAD to CLB-8 for deployment to Iraq from August 2007 to April 2008. Upon return from this deployment, he reported back to 2d Maintenance Battalion and assumed the position of First Sergeant of Ordnance Maintenance Company. 1stSgt Wilson officially detached from 2d Maintenance Battalion on December 22, 2008.

In January 2, 2009, Sergeant Major Wilson reported in for duty with Combat Logistics Battalion 3, assuming the position of Senior Enlisted Adviser for the RBE. Sergeant Major Wilson served in that capacity from January to May 2009. He then moved on to assume the position of Headquarters Company First Sergeant. In August of 2009, he was transferred to Support Company for duty and later deployed to Afghanistan from September 2010 to April 2011.  In June 2011, he was moved back to Headquarters Company.

In January 2012, Sergeant Major Wilson left CLB-3 to assume his duties at Headquarters Battalion Marine Corps Base Hawaii. Here, he served as the First Sergeant for the Service and Headquarters Company. While at HQBN, 1stSgt Wilson began taking off duty college courses with Wayland Baptist University.

In June 2013, Sergeant Major Wilson transferred to the School of Infantry West, Infantry Training Battalion, Bravo Company. It was at this unit that Sergeant Major Wilson completed his associates and bachelor’s degree. He was selected for the rank of Sergeant Major on the 2014 selection board and later received orders to VMM-364.

Sergeant Major Wilson reported to VMM-364 for duty on 10 December 2014 while the unit was undergoing a transition from the CH-46’s to the V-22 Osprey.

In August 2016, Sergeant Major Wilson reported to the 12th Marine Corps District, Recruiting Station Riverside for duty as RS Sergeant Major. He, along with a small number of Marines were tasked with standing up the Marine Corps’ newest Recruiting Station.

In December 2018, Sergeant Major Wilson reported to 4th Marine Corps District for assignment as the District Sergeant Major.

Sergeant Major Wilson’s awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (gold star in lieu of second award), the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (gold star in lieu of third award), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (gold star in lieu of second award) and several Letters of Appreciation, Meritorious Masts, and Certificates of Commendation.
