Richard DiCarlo enlisted in the Marine Corps Reserve on 29 June 2001. Upon graduation from Recruit Training at MCRD Parris Island, Private First Class DiCarlo attended Marine Combat Training and Administrative Clerks Course.

Lance Corporal DiCarlo was assigned to the II MEF Augmentation Command Element (II MACE) G-1 aboard Camp Lejeune, North Carolina in 2002. In 2003, Lance Corporal DiCarlo was mobilized and served with II MEF Headquarters G-1 Operations, earning a meritorious promotion to the rank of Corporal.

Second Lieutenant DiCarlo was commissioned in 2005 upon graduation from Appalachian State University and Officer Candidate School. Following The Basic School and Infantry Officer Course in 2006, he reported to 2nd Battalion, 1st Marines at Camp Pendleton, California where he served as a Rifle Platoon Commander, Company Executive Officer, and Company Commander during deployments aboard the 31st MEU and Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Captain DiCarlo reported to School of Infantry (West) in 2009 and served as the Regimental Assistant Operations Officer; Delta Company XO; and Infantry Training Battalion Headquarters & Instructor Company Commander.

Captain DiCarlo left active duty and transferred to the Individual Ready Reserves (IRR) in 2013. In 2015, Captain DiCarlo rejoined the Marine Corps Reserve with Mobilization Training Battalion at the School of Infantry (West) where he served as Instructor Company Commander and Battalion Operations Officer.

In January 2017, Major DiCarlo was mobilized and served with Deployment Processing Command / Reserve Support Unit (West) as the Operations Officer.

From October 2017 – June 2018, Major DiCarlo was mobilized and served as the 4th Marine Division G-3 Current Operations Officer at Headquarters, Marine Forces Reserve in New Orleans, Louisiana. Major DiCarlo was selected for the Active Reserve program and received orders to his present assignment at the 1st Marine Corps District in June 2018.
