LCDR Jeffrey Augustin
1st Marine Corps District Chaplain
LCDR Augustin began his military career in 1993, shipping off to Parris Island, South Carolina in January to the Marine Corps Recruit Depot. Upon graduating as a Private in April and Marine Combat Training in July, he was stationed at 29 Palms Marine Corps Base, California for the Basic Radio Operator Course. In August, he received orders to 2d Surveillance Reconnaissance Intelligence Group, Camp LeJeune, North Carolina, where he accepted a volunteer position at 2d ANGLICO. In the first six months, he achieved two additional ratings, Forward Observer and Basic Parachutist (gold wings). Various trainings and locations include SERE school at New Brunswick, Maine, Basic Parachutist and Ranger Indoctrination schools at Fort Benning, Georgia, Fort Bragg, North Carolina, Mountain Warfare Training Center in Bridgeport, California, Cold Weather Training, Norway, and Live Naval Gunfire Training on Vieques Island, Puerto Rico. In October of 1995, then LCPL Augustin, received orders to Camp Hansen, Okinawa, Japan, where he served with Special Operations Training Group and 5th Force Reconnaissance Group. Locations and trainings include Parachute Exercise at HMAS Albatross, Nowra, Australia and Songkhla, Thailand as part of Cobra Gold. In November of 1996, then Corporal Augustin, received an honorable discharge.
He completed his bachelor’s degree in May 1999 at Cairn University, and left in August for Dallas, Texas to begin a four-year Masters of Theology degree at Dallas Theological Seminary. He graduated in May of 2003 and started working as a full-time pastor in June at Davisville Baptist Church, Southampton, Pennsylvania, his home church. While pastoring, he chose to apply for professional chaplaincy in the United States Navy. He was commissioned in September 2005 and completed the Chaplain’s Basic Course, Newport Naval Station, Rhode Island later that year.
His tours include Staff Chaplain at Naval Support Activity, Souda Bay, Crete, Greece, where he was promoted to Lieutenant; Staff Chaplain at the United States Coast Guard Training Center, Yorktown, Virginia; Combat Chaplain with Riverine Squadron Three, Yorktown, Virginia, where he was deployed to Iraq as part of Operation: Iraqi Freedom; Ship’s Chaplain aboard the USS GUNSTON HALL (LSD 44), where he deployed to the 4th Fleet for humanitarian aid and to 5th Fleet to support Operation: Enduring Freedom; Command Chaplain at Naval Air Station, Patuxent River, Maryland, where he was promoted to Lieutenant Commander; and Command Chaplain at COMDESRON 21, San Diego, California. He currently serves as the Chaplain for 1st Marine Corps District, Garden City, New York.
His senior medals include the Navy Marine Corps Commendation medal (3), Army Commendation Medal (1), the Navy Achievement medal (3), and the Coast Guard Achievement Medal (1).
