Sergeant John M. Cosh was born in New York on November 8, 1981.  He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on March 30, 2009.  Sergeant Cosh graduated from Alpha Company, First Recruit Training Battalion, Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, SC, on June 30, 2009.  He attended his MOS school at the School of Infantry, NC, and designated as a 0351 Infantry Assaultman.

Upon completion of school in September 2009, he was transferred to 2d Battalion 9th Marines, where he served as Team Leader, Squad Leader, Assault Section Leader, and Platoon Sergeant until January 2013.  While with 2d Battalion 9th Marines Sergeant Cosh deployed to Marjah, Afghanistan in July 2010 and again in November of 2011 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. While at 2d Battalion 9th Marines, Sergeant Cosh was promoted to the rank of LCpl in December 2009, promoted to the rank of Corporal (Combat Meritorious) in December 2010, and promoted to the rank of Sergeant (Meritorious) in August 2011.

Sergeant Cosh is currently assigned to Marine Corps Recruiting Station New York as a recruiter at Recruiting Substation Smithtown, PCS Bay Shore.

Sergeant Cosh’s personal awards include the Navy & Marine Corps Achievement Medal; and a Combat Action Ribbon.
