Staff Sergeant Jose Flores was born in San Antonio, Texas on 6 September, 1989. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on 4 August, 2008. Staff Sergeant Flores graduated from Bravo Company, 1st RTBN, MCRD San Diego, California on 31 October, 2008. He attended Marine Combat Training school in Camp Pendleton, California and graduated on 18 December, 2008. He attended his MOS school at Fort Leonard wood, Missouri and was designated as a 3531 Motor Vehicle Operator.
Upon completion of school in March, 2009, Staff Sergeant Flores was transferred to Headquarter and Service Company, III MEF, 3D Marine Division, Okinawa, Japan where he served as a motor vehicle operator until July, 2010. During this tour, Staff Sergeant Flores was hand selected to become the III MHG, III MEF Commanding Officer’s personal driver. Once his term was completed, the Commanding Officer personally requested that Staff Sergeant Flores extent his term and continue his duty as the Commanding Officer’s driver.
During this tour on Okinawa, Japan, Staff Sergeant Flores started attending night college classes from Central Texas College. He was able to balance both work and school and successfully completed his Associates degree in General Studies on June, 2010 from Central Texas College.
Once he graduated from Central Texas College, he volunteered and deployed with MARCENT in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and returned on February, 2011. Following his overseas tour, he received orders to 3rd Battalion, 10th Marine Regiment, 2D Marine Division, North Carolina where he served as motor transportation chief, Headquarters platoon Sergeant, and Battery F marital arts instructor. While simultaneously serving all three billets, Staff Sergeant Flores was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Sergeant in February, 2012.
During his tour on Camp Lejeune, Staff Sergeant Flores continued his off duty education and pursued a Bachelor’s degree of Arts degree in Psychology from Ashford University. As a college student and active duty Marine, he received several academic honors to include making the Dean’s list five times, being inducted into the Golden Key honor society, Alpha Sigma Lambda, and SALUTE honor society. He graduated with his Bachelor’s degree of Arts degree in Psychology on April, 2012 with an overall GPA of 3.8, earning a Magna Cum Laude honor.
Upon competition of his tour on Camp Lejeune, Staff Sergeant Flores volunteered for recruiting duty. Staff Sergeant Flores graduated from class 4-13 and was assigned to Recruiting Station New York, Recruiting Sub-station Patchogue. He began his tour on August, 2013. During this time, Staff Sergeant Flores has won Recruiter of the month for March, 2014. On May, 2014, Staff Sergeant once again excelled academically and graduated with his Master’s degree of Arts in Organization Management from Ashford University’s Forbes school of Business. He received several honors to include Golden Key honor society, Alpha Sigma Lambda, and finished with a flawless 4.0 GPA earning a Summa Cum Laude honor. On November of 2014, Staff Sergeant Flores was named the New York recruiter of the Year and 1st Marine District Recruiter of the Year. On December of 2014 he was named as the Eastern Recruiting Region Recruiter of the Year. He was meritoriously promoted to his current rank of Staff Sergeant on January 2nd, 2015.
Staff Sergeant Flores’ personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, (2) Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, and the Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, two Certificates of Commendation, and a Meritorious Mast.
