Sgt Julio C Chicas was born in Intipuca, El Salvador on 8 February 1983. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on 17 November 2005. Sgt Chicas graduated from Lima Company, 3D RTBN, MCRD Parris Island, South Carolina on 7 April 2006. He attended his Camp Johnson, North Carolina and designated as a 0151 Administrative Clerk.
Upon completion of school in June 2006, he was transferred to Headquarters and Service Company, Headquarters Battalion, 3D Marine Division, Okinawa, Japan where he served as an administrative clerk until June 2008. Following his overseas tour he received orders to Headquarters and Service Company, 1st Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, 1st Marine Division, Camp Pendleton, California where he served as an S-1 NCO. In September 2008, he was deployed to Al Anbar Province, Iraq to participate in Operation Iraqi Freedom 08-2.
Upon his return to Camp Pendleton in April 2009, he reenlisted and received orders to Headquarters Company, 1st Marine Corps District, Garden City, New York where he served as quality control clerk and operations statistician. In August 2011 Sgt Chicas reenlisted and volunteered for recruiting duty. Sgt Chicas graduated from class 6-11 and was assigned to Recruiting Sub-Station Jamaica, RS New York, 1st Marine Corps District, New York.
Sgt Chicas is currently assigned to Marine Corps Recruiting Station New York as a Station Commander Recruiting Substation Jamaica.
Sgt Chicas’ personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with three gold stars in lieu of a fourth award.
