Staff Sgt. Julianna Pinder earned a meritorious promotion to her current rank, July 2, 2014. Pinder, a Novato, Calif. native, competed with over 105 Marines in Western Recruiting Region to earn her promotion. Pinder is a single mother, and is currently a canvassing recruiter at United States Marines, RSS Antioch.

The Poolee Family Day brought together over 300 poolees and their families, to strengthen the relationships between them and Marines. The poolees participated in a cadence run, field competitions, and were introduced to a few drill instructors throughout the course of the day.

Marines awarded for heroic actions in Afghanistan
Sergeant Kenneth Rick, a squad leader with 1st Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, received the Silver Star Medal from Lt. Gen. John Toolan, commanding general of I Marine Expeditionary Force, during an award ceremony held at Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center Twentynine Palms, Calif., Feb. 18, 2014. Rick, a native of Sacramento, was recognized for his heroic actions in Afghanistan when he maintained a tactical advantage while being ambushed by a larger enemy force.
