California native searches for next generation of Marines in Florida

As a child, Staff Sgt. Absalom Johnson moved often. When he graduated from Hercules High School in 2010, he was finally able to plant roots and become part of a community. He became a bank teller while also coaching high school basketball. He was happy, but he yearned for something more.

California native achieves dream through Marine Corps

Who said there is only one correct path to achieving your goals and dreams? There are many ways to accomplish your goals and when life does not go as planned, do not give up, stay focused, and find a different route. That is how Private Kristofer Maldonado, a 2016 graduate of Nipomo High School, became a Marine. Maldonado started working with the Marines of Recruiting Sub-Station (RSS) San Luis Obispo, which is a part of Recruiting Station Los Angeles, in March 2020.

Florida native returns to hometown, helps locals join Marine Corps

Growing up in Panama City Beach, Sgt. Jesse A. Shockley noticed that a lot of his friends joined the Army, Navy, and Air Force immediately after high school. Shockley graduated from J. R. Arnold High School in 2012, and became the first member of his family to graduate from high school. With this achievement under his belt, Shockley took off to speak to his local Navy recruiter.

Georgia native, Marine offers career opportunities during COVID

As schools and businesses scramble to adapt to the COVID pandemic, high school upperclassmen approach a less certain immediate future than recent graduating classes. Staff Sgt. Robert Harvell sees some parallels between their current outlook and his future outlook when he graduated.

Indiana native helps find next generation of Marines in Alabama

While in high school, Staff Sgt. Gabriel A. Little saw his brother transform from a typical teen to a confident individual during his tour as a mortarman in the Marine Corps. When he graduated from Warsaw Community High School in Warsaw, Indiana, in 2013, he decided to follow in his brother’s footsteps and enlisted. Seven years later, he finds himself guiding young men and woman as they pursue their dreams of becoming U.S. Marines as well.
