1st MARINE CORPS DISTRICT, GARDEN CITY, N.Y. --
Most men can only dream of what it’s like to hear thousands of fans cheer while taking the mound in a Major League ballpark. But thanks to the New York Mets organization, this dream became a reality for one Marine recruiter.
Sergeant Juan Valderama, a recruiter for Recruiting Station New York was one of four U.S. Servicemembers to throw a ceremonial pitch to start the game during the Mets’ annual Military Appreciation Day at Shea Stadium, July 9.
Valderama and several other Marines from 1st Marine Corps District were allowed on the field for the opening ceremonies where they posed for photos with Mets players prior to the game.
