MARINE CORPS RECRUIT DEPOT SAN DIEGO -- After seven weeks of Commanding General’s Cup five-on-five full court basketball, Headquarters & Service Battalion came out on top, increasing their lead for the CG’s Cup Wednesday.

The day started with a Support Bn. 2 forfeit, which pushed 3rd Bn. to the next phase. The forfeit was followed by a close H&S Bn. win over 12th Marine Corps District, 41-40.

Next up was Support Bn. 1 seeking a chance to take their ticket to the finals against 3rd Bn. Their goal turned to reality as they swept the court, leaving 3rd Bn. in the hall of shame with a 37-50 loss.

After 12th District’s earlier loss, they came back seeking a victory they hoped would lead them to the championship. Despite their attempt, a victory was not in store when they came face-to-face with Support Bn. 1, who stole the game 38-41.

"I think 12th District gave all they had against H&S and when it came time to play Support Bn. they had nothing left," said Rachel Dickinson, CG’s Cup sports coordinator. "But by far, the game of the day was H&S and 12th District, the noise and energy levels were out of control."

Support Bns.’ win led them to meet H&S in the championship game. Although they brought their game faces along, they came out in second place as H&S dominated the ending in a 65-76 victory.

"I contribute this win to basketball knowledge," said Jonathan S. Molloy, H&S Bn. "We had too many people who knew about basketball to lose."

After a brief on-court celebration consisting of high-fives and hand shakes, the quote of the season was re-iterated by Molloy’s teammate, Timothy Horton, "Molloy said, ‘We were going all the way,’ and we did."
