CARSON, Calif. -- The West team of the Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl defeated the East team 31 to 24 in the Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl at The StubHub Center in Carson, Calif., Jan. 5, 2014.
The Semper Fidelis Football Program brought together over 95 of the best high-school football players in an East versus West game and is an opportunity for the Marine Corps to connect on a personal and local level with players and influencers, demonstrates commitment to developing quality citizens, and reinforces how core values of honor, courage and commitment relate to success on and off the field.
The West team went up first and continued with 21 unanswered points, including a punt return for a touchdown by Jonathan Lockett, a Santa Ana, Calif., native from Mater Dei High School.
The East team’s first score came in the second quarter with a rushing touchdown by quarterback Clayton Thorson, a Wheaton, Ill., native from Wheaton North High School. East scored two more times in the second quarter with a touchdown and field goal.
The teams entered the half at 31 to 17 with the West team up.
The second half was a brutal battle with continuous turnovers including an interception by East’s Trey Marshall, a Lake City, Fla., native from Columbia High School, that led to the only second half score, a receiving touchdown by Xavier Burke, a Lawrenceville, Va., native from Brunswick High School.
The West team was able to run out the last few minutes of the clock by running the ball and came out on top. Clayton Thorson was named the player of the game.
