District Substations getting new look

In an effort to improve the overall image and uniformity of the recruiting substations within the 12th Marine Corps District, the logistics officer and comptroller have begun the steps to purchase and deliver new furniture to offices within the District.
According to Maj. Terry D. Hagen, logistics officer, 12th Marine Corps District, the five -year plan is well underway and the projected results are being met.
"Our goal of enhancing the image of all the facilities within the District are being met," he said.
In the past, the various recruiting station supply chiefs were in charge of proving the substations with new furniture when the need came up.  Usually, they were looking for cost efficient, quick ways to provide for the needs of the recruiters.  From station to station, there was no uniformity, and the furniture rarely lasted beyond a few years, said Hagen.
"We decided to take a different approach and to take the burden off the supply chiefs," Hagen added.  "We went to a professional interior designer and together we came up with a design concept and went with it."
The smallest details of the chair fabric to the durability of tables and desks were taken into consideration when picking the furniture that will be used.  Hagen said they wanted a darker carpet to help hide spills and shoe polish marks, a durable desk and table material and a chair material that would not wear easy.
According to Hagen, some of the recruiting stations were not too keen on the idea of having District handle purchasing and coordination of new furniture for their substations.  But after a test run at Permanent Contact Station National City, more stations were on board with the idea.
