Major Schumacher was born in Springville, NY. He enlisted in the Marine Corps Reserves in May 1995 and underwent recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina. Upon graduation from recruit training, he reported to Bravo Company, 8th Tank Battalion, 4th Marine Division as a motor vehicle operator. In 1997, LCpl Schumacher was transferred to Truck Company, Headquarters Battalion, 4th Marine Division where he served as a recovery vehicle operator, eventually achieving the rank of Sergeant.

In 2001, Sergeant Schumacher reported to Officer Candidates School in Quantico, Virginia where he successfully completed the Officer Candidate Course (OCC) and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant. 2ndLt Schumacher subsequently completed The Basic School where he was assigned the Logistics Officer MOS. In 2002, 2ndLt Schumacher completed the Logistics Officer Course on Camp Johnson, North Carolina and received the 0402 MOS.

In 2002, 2ndLt Schumacher reported to 2d Combat Engineer Battalion (2d CEB), 2d Marine Division. While a member of 2d CEB, he was promoted to the rank of First Lieutenant and held the billets of Assistant Logistics Officer, Logistics Officer, Maintenance Management Officer, and Company Commander of Engineer Support Company. 2ndLt Schumacher deployed with 2d CEB in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

In 2005, 1stLt Schumacher reported to Officer Candidates School (OCS) in Quantico, Virginia as a member of permanent personnel. While a member of OCS, he was promoted to the rank of Captain and held the billets of Assistant Logistics Officer, Platoon Commander, Company Executive Officer, and Company Commander of Headquarters and Service Company.

In 2008, Capt Schumacher attended Expeditionary Warfare School in Quantico, Virginia.

In 2009, Capt Schumacher reported to Combat Logistics Battalion 6 (CLB-6), 2d Marine Logistics Group. While a member of CLB-6, he was promoted to the rank of Major and held the billets of Battalion Operations Officer and Company Commander. Major Schumacher deployed with CLB-6 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom 10.1 and Operation Enduring Freedom 11.2.

Major Schumacher graduated from the Pennsylvania State University in 1997 with a Bachelors of Science degree in Human Development and Family Studies. His personal awards include the Navy Commendation Medal (two gold stars), the Navy Achievement Medal, and the Combat Action Ribbon (one gold star).
