Marine Corps Recruiting Command makes mission and prepares for challenging 2023

Fiscal Year 2022 stood as one of the most difficult years in recruiting since the inception of the all-volunteer force. The year presented the continued challenges from the COVID pandemic, reduced access to prospects, a decline in the eligible population, a historic low propensity to enlist, decreased public confidence in the government, media cost inflation, and a growing military and civilian divide. Regardless, the Marines continued to fight and the Command surpassed their assigned total force mission by shipping 33,210 active and 4,602 reserve accessions to boot camp, commissioning 1705 officers, and joining 3840 prior service Marines to the reserves. All while maintaining quality standards well above Department of Defense requirements.

Stephanie Drake holds a degree in oceanography from the U.S. Naval Academy and served active duty with the U.S. Marine Corps for eight years. Although a logistician by trade with the Marines, she held seven different jobs over those eight years including running an airport, training female Iraqi police, and conducting historical preservation work on 19th century buildings in Washington, D.C., to name a few.

Marine Corps Recruiting Command awarded all allocated four-year Frederick C. Branch Leadership Scholarships to highly qualified men and women during a recent selection board. The scholarship, named after the Corps’ first African-American officer, is a four year Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps scholarship available to students of any background who plan on attending one of 17 participating historically black colleges and universities. - Marine Corps Recruiting Command awarded all allocated four-year Frederick C.
