Colonel Terence D. Trenchard was born in Hartford, Conn., and was commissioned in June 1989 after graduating from the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass. He was subsequently assigned to the 2nd Marine Division, Camp Lejeune, N. C. where he served as a forward observer, fire direction officer, platoon commander, and adjutant in 2nd Battalion, 10th Marines.
In 1993, Col. Trenchard reported to the 6th Marine Corps District and served as the operations officer and executive officer for Recruiting Station Jacksonville, Fla. He returned to 2nd Marine Division in October 1996 and served as the battalion logistics officer and battery commander for Battery L, 3rd Battalion, 10th Marines. In 1999, Col. Trenchard was assigned to the 8th Marine Corps District and served as the commanding officer of Recruiting Station Oklahoma City, Okla., until July 2002.
From 2003 to 2006, Col. Trenchard was assigned to III Marine Expeditionary Force in Okinawa, Japan, where he served as the target information officer, assistant force fires coordinator, and aide to the commanding general. In 2006, he was transferred to Headquarters and Service Battalion in Quantico, Va., and served in the Manpower Management Enlisted Assignments Branch. In 2007, he was assigned to the 1st Marine Division and served as the commanding officer of 5th Battalion, 11th Marines until April 2009. From April 2009 to May 2010, Col. Trenchard served as team leader of the 27th Iraqi Army Brigade Military Transition Team. He assumed command of the 4th Marine Corps District in July 2011.
Colonel Trenchard’s personal decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal with three gold stars in lieu of fourth award, the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with gold star in lieu of second award, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and the Combat Action Ribbon with gold star in lieu of second award.
Colonel Trenchard holds a Master of Arts degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the U.S. Naval War College in Newport, R. I., and a Master of Strategic Studies degree from the U.S. Army War College at Carlisle Barracks, Pa.
Colonel Trenchard is married and has three children.
