RARITAN, NJ (Sept. 18, 2012) – The Marine Corps Base Quantico Concert Band will perform on three occasions in commemoration of the 31st John Basilone Memorial Parade and Ceremony in Raritan, NJ Sept. 22-23.

John Basilone, born November 4th, 1916, and native of Raritan, NJ, is the only enlisted Marine to be awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor and the Navy Cross, and is also the only Marine to be killed in action after already receiving the Medal of Honor for previous actions.

The town of Raritan and surrounding communities will get together starting Friday Sept. 21 to begin the ceremonial weekend. The weekend will include performances by the Marine Corps Base Quantico Concert Band, a fun run 5k, an honoree breakfast, church service, the opening of Basilone Museum, the Basilone Parade, and the ceremony to follow soon after.

The Marine Corps Base Quantico Concert band will have two performances at Raritan Valley Community College on Sept. 22, with one at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. The third performance will be during the parade and ceremony on Sept. 23 at 1 p.m.

Marine Lieutenant General Robert E. Milstead, Jr., the Deputy Commandant for Manpower and Reserve Affairs, will be guest speaking during the ceremony on behalf of John Basilone and his selfless service and dedication to the United States.
